Kingdom High School

The round shape of this 800 seat auditorium was desired by the school's benefactor. This shape presented an acoustical challenge which we addressed by using raked seating and heavily articulated walls to diffuse sound. This approach provided ample diffusion and good sound decay in the space. In order to address further the focusing issues we recommended canting the walls from top to bottom, providing more early reflections to the audience area, and avoiding the problems associated with the round shape. Since the space was to be used mostly for speech, which requires a more controlled acoustical environment, we used absorbing materials on portions of the walls and ceiling to control reverberation.
