The worship space of St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Alexandria provides seating for 1500. It was designed
giving careful attention to the integration of room
acoustics, technology, and architecture.
The acoustical environment of the space was
designed in keeping with more traditional liturgical
values. The desired acoustical "liveness" of the space
presented a challenge for the sound systems designers,
so close coordination between the architect and the
acoustic and sound system designers was implemented
early in the building design phases.
The result is successful architectural integration of
the elements necessary to provide excellent acoustical
enhancement of music while exhibiting good speech
intelligibility.
